Set in the 18th century, the Kazakh steppe is ravaged by the raids of the Dzungar Horde. A prophecy tells of a hero who will bring peace and freedom to the Kazakh people. Young warrior Mansur unexpectedly becomes this hero, facing numerous obstacles to gain the trust of simple nomads, unite scattered tribes, and raise an army capable of resisting the invaders. On his path, he finds true love, loyal comrades, and becomes the great Khan Abilmansur.

A group of filmmakers from Kazakhstan and Russia are preparing to shoot a documentary about the campaigns of Alexander the Great. They will soon depart from Almaty to Afghanistan. Among them is a young woman named Dinara. Her lover tries to dissuade her from this dangerous journey, but she is adamant. The young man then turns to his father, Marat Ayumov, a war veteran who lost his leg in Afghanistan, for help. However, Marat chooses a different approach: he volunteers to accompany the group as a guide, as he has unfinished business left there.
