Baluán Sholák is one of the most celebrated wrestlers and akyns of the Kazakh steppe. A star of fairs, at 14 he was already defeating adult opponents and easily lifting a dozen pood kettlebells. But Baluan was not only a strongman, but also a brave man, a true patriot of the Kazakh land. When tension from the Russian Tsar intensifies and soldiers and settlers arrive in his aul, Baluan Sholák first tries to resolve the matter peacefully. But the plan fails. Baluan himself is to be captured, and he decides to take a desperate step to preserve his people's freedom.
