At school, they are separated and Gulnaz is paired with another student, Zhenis, who also has feelings for her. A rivalry grows between the boys leading to a heated altercation where Oryal shoots Zhenis. Zhenis survives and forgives Oryal, who promises to leave town and never cross his path again. Oryal plans to bid goodbye to Gulnaz but fails to find her at home. Her uncle intercepts and burns his explanatory letter.
