Ayala's life seems perfect at first glance: a successful career, a comfortable home, and a lovely daughter, Amina. But behind the perfect facade hides deep pain. Amina's father died on the ice from a heart attack during a hockey match. He never saw his daughter, and didn't have time to marry Ayala. These unfulfilled 'nevers' - thousands of unrealized hopes - replay in her mind daily, preventing her emotional wounds from healing. Ayala keeps other men out of her life and even with her daughter, she remains distinctly distant, fearing attachment and another loss. A close friend, seeing Ayala's suffering, takes her to a fortune teller who promises that Ayala will soon meet the main man of her life.
