Kazakhstanis, who were still recovering from the 'Great Famine', warmly welcomed the newcomers, helping them survive hunger and despair. Among them were the deportees of the 'Bright Path' collective farm, discarded by the railway like unwanted rubbish. The active and assertive chairman, Orynbaı Berbengulov, could not ignore this.
