In the family of Kurmash, a great sorrow weighs heavy: his beloved wife cannot bear him a child, as all are stillborn. In desperation, Kurmash seeks help from a local healer, who provides an unusual, almost humorous advice that surprisingly works. Kurmash has his first child, but he is dissatisfied again. He wanted a boy, but his wife gave birth to a girl. The healer, mocking the unfortunate father, suggests he whisper to the baby that she is a boy. Kurmash decides to do just that. He raises the little girl, named Seker, as a boy. He teaches her to be a fearless rider and a farmhand.
