Chadyarov, going under the succinct name Fan, owns a cabaret in Harbin. One day, a representative of the White emigration intelligence, Fedotov, threatens him and forces him to travel to Moscow on the Trans-Siberian Express for a secret mission. On the same train travels a major Japanese industrialist, Saito, who recently suffered a tragedy with his daughter being brutally murdered. Despite this, he is heading to Moscow to begin trade negotiations with the Soviet Union.
